Mrs. Burnside's Message

Dear Families,

We have a wonderful week of learning, service, and fun ahead! Your support makes all the difference in our school community! First, a reminder regarding field trips: if your child's class is scheduled to attend the Nature Center this week, please ensure they are dressed appropriately for the weather and outdoor activity, as they will be spending time outside.

We are excited to announce the start of our annual school food drive to support a vital cause in our community. Our food drive begins Monday, November 10th, and runs through Friday, November 21st. We will be collecting unopened, non-perishable food items to benefit the Murray Children's Food Pantry. This year, we are turning the food drive into a friendly competition among the grades to see who can donate the most! With recent changes in SNAP benefits, the need in our local community is greater than ever, and we would love for every family to join us in supporting the Murray Children's Food Pantry. See attached flyer for more information.

Thank you for partnering with us this week to support both our students' learning and our community's needs!

Ruby Bridges Walk To School Day

Grant Elementary will celebrate Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day on Friday, November 14th. This annual event honors Ruby Bridges, who in 1960 became the first Black child to integrate an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. She faced angry crowds and daily threats, yet walked to school with strength and determination that changed history. This day celebrates her courage, inspires students to stand up against bullying and racism, and encourages walking to school as a joyful, community-building activity.

Dress in purple and join us as we walk to school as a group in celebration of Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day!

Where to meet: The LDS Church directly south of the school on 6300 South 700 West.
When: Friday, November 14th. Students who wish to participate will meet at the church at 8:10 am.

As a group, we will begin walking to the school at 8:15 am. We would love for parents to join us for this activity!

Open enrollment

Open Enrollment

Open enrollment is for NEW non-resident students or for students transitioning to junior high or high school. If your child currently attends Grant on a non-resident application, you do NOT need to complete an application for him/her to attend here next year.
Tell all your out-of-boundary friends and family how awesome it is to be a Grant Bulldog!

ESP Appreciation Day

Wednesday, November 19th is National Education Support Professionals Day. At Grant, we have over 25 talented individuals who support teachers and students every day. Our warmest appreciation goes to our fabulous specials teachers, kitchen/lunchroom staff, custodial team, curriculum aides, nurses, recess aides and support staff members! We invite you to let these people know how much they impact your child's school experience. Grant's ESP's are simply the best!

Retakes

Picture Retake Day

Thursday, November 20th is our picture retake day. Any child who did NOT have his/her picture taken in October will be photographed even if families are not interested in purchasing picture packets. If you have photos but wish for a retake, the original packet must be returned that day. Online ordering will be available at bellphoto.com for families who did not purchase photos earlier but would like to. The photographers will only be here for a very short time in the morning so make sure your child is on time! Thanks!

Turkey Trot

Don't forget our annual Turkey Trot will be coming up soon. It will be held on Tuesday, November 25th and will begin at 1:45 PM. We would love for you to join us! Sixth grade will start and we will end with kindergarten. Each grade will start approximately 5-10 minutes after the next grade.
